Assigning A Keystroke To Mute JAWS

  1. Bring up your keyboard manager with insert+8 on the number row.

  2. Make sure you are focused on the default file.

  3. Tab once in to the list of available functions.

  4. Then start typing mute until you hear mute synthesizer, which will have no keystroke, assigned.

  5. Press control A and give it what ever keystroke your heart desires.

  6. Save your changes when you close out the keyboard manager.

Note that this is a toggle kind of thing, and that JAWS will only remain muted so long as you're focused on the current Window.
