How to create cd’s with nero 6
When you first run nero, you are placed on a radio button (checked) to start a multi-session disc. I like to arrow down to the no multi-session radio button (checked). Nero defaults to cd-rom (iso) which is for creating data cd’s. this is also the type to use when creating a cd containing mp3 tracks to play in an mp3 player. To change the type of cd to burn, you would press shift+tab three times to move to the list view of formats. As I mentioned before, cd-rom (iso) is the default. Press the down arrow twice to open the list view and move to audio cd. Or even easier, simply press a for audio cd. Pressing the letter c will move you through the list to each type that starts with c i.e. pressing the letter c will move you to the copy cd type. Once you are on the type you wish to burn simply press enter. In this tutorial we are going to be burning a data cd cd-rom (iso).
The first thing you will see is the cd name or volume label. If this is the first time to use nero, it will be simply new. Here you can press f2 to edit or completely change the volume label to reflect what you are burning on the cd for now, just leave it as new. Think of this window as the root of the cd layout also, . Tabbing once from here will place you in the cd layout window of nero. Here is where the files will be placed when you add files to the layout from the treeview of your folders of your computer. Of course, the layout is empty at this time.
Now, tab once more and you will probably hear something different from what I have so to get to the same place, we are going to start pressing the left arrow key till we hear desktop closed. Now, we need to press the right arrow once to open the desktop folder and move down once with the down arrow to my documents. It should say closed. Press the down arrow once again to my computer and it will say closed also. Here we will Press the right arrow to open that folder. If there’s a floppy disk in you’re a: drive you can now down arrow to the hard drive that contains your files and folders, if not, you will need to press the letter l to move to the first local drive which is c. (note: for windows 98se and me users, this won’t work).
We now need to press the right arrow to open the c: drive. Now if we down arrow, we will see only the folders of drive c: to see any file in the root of a folder, we need to press the tab key once to move in to the treeview of that folder. If when arrowing to a folder and jfw doesn’t report open or closed, that means that that folder doesn’t have sub-folders and you must press the tab key to move to the listview of the files in that folder. If a folder contains sub-folders, only, you must down arrow to that sub-folder and press the right arrow to open it then tab in to the listview to see the files withn that folder.
Let’s move back up to the my documents folder and we are going to use this folder for our lesson on adding files to a data cd layout. When you arrow up to the my documents folder, you should hear closed. Lets open the folder by pressing the right arrow.
In this folder we will find somewhat different items, but some are the same with windows xp. These folders are create when windows was installed. Lets down arrow to the folder named my pictures. This folder may be empty, but we are going to add it to the layout for this lesson. To add the folder, press ctrl+1 (the 1 over the letter q). Now, to see if the folder is in the layout, tab once and you should be on the label of the cd which is new. Down arrow once and you should see the folder my pictures. Pressing the tab key once more will open the folder and show you what is under that folder in the layout of the cd. This folder may be empty. Lets shift tab back once and arrow back up to the label. Now if you tab, you will still see the my pictures folder, but that’s all because that’s the only folder added to the layout. When creating an mp3 cd, you want to add folders of mp3 files rather than just adding the mp3’s to the root of the cd. The reason for this is because the root of any drive is limited to only 187 names regardless if there’s still room on the drive for more.
Lets down arrow once to select the my pictures folder and press the delete key to remove it from the layout for now, answer yes to the prompt to comfirm you wish to remove the folder from the layout.
Lets shift tab two times back to the listview of my documents. We are back in the my documents folder and on the my pictures folder. We now want to shift tab once more to the my documents folder which is open. You’re my documents folder may be more than 650 ot 700mb of data, but lets add the folder to the layout so you can see how it look in the layout. Once you have done that, tab over to the cd label and down arrow once, you will see my documents there. Arrow back up to the label and tab once more. You are on the same folder and here you can press enter to view whats in that folder.
To see how much you have added to the layout you do the following:
1: press alt+f then i
2: for jaws users, route jaws-to-pc
2a: for window-eyes users press insert+numpad plus (route pointer to listview)
3: now down arrow to read the screen.
Depending on the capacity of your cd, you either have to make sure you don’t have more than 650mb (650,000kb) or 700mb (700,000kb) of data for a data cd. When creating an audio cd, the information is a little different. You have to make sure you don’t go over either 74 minutes for a 650mb cd or 80 minutes for a 700mb cd. The amount of data in kb doesn’t matter here.
When you are ready to burn your layout, do the following:
1: press alt+r then o
2: if you wish to determin maximum speed , check the first box presented press tab
3: if you wish to simulate a burn check this box, press tab
4: if you wish to just simulate a burn uncheck this box, press tab
5: finalize cd is checked and for audio cd’s it must be checked for the cd to play in an audio cd player, press tab again
6: here is the speed of the burn, leave as is, tab again
7: this is the method, disk at once is my preference, press tab again
8: this is the number of copies, you can change this if you are going to burn more than 1 copy, press tab again
9: the next two controls are unchecked and I leave them that way, tab to the burn button and press enter.
If you change the number of copies in step 8, you will be prompted for the next cd to burn.
